Hi,

For a literature course (children's) I am writing a novel about a girl coming from Amsterdam to Nieuw Nederlandt in 1663 with her father. They end up living in Breuckelen. I have done a fair bit of research, but haven't been able to find too much.
I chose to write about New Netherland because I am Dutch and find history fascinating. I never knew how much of an inpact the Dutch had on the development of New York and vincinity.
If anyone can give me more information about Breuckelen and/or Nieuw Nederlandt 1663/1664 I'd be very happy.
Also, I have read that there was a fair bit of friction between the Dutch and English settlers right before and after the English claiming the colony in 1664. Is this correct?
Thanks a lot!

For starters you could look at the web page

NNP Virtual Tour (http://www.nnp.org/vtour/regions/Long_Island/breuckelen.html)

and also contact the Brooklyn Historical Society whose link is on the above page.

A good place to start for a young person's view of coming to NN would be our 7th-grade curriculum which features the experiences of a teenage boy venturing to Rensselaerswijck. If you send me your mailing address, I'll send you a copy.

Yes, I have been to NNP virtual tour website several times in the past, and think it's great.
The 7th grade curriculum experience sounds great and I would really appreciate a copy. Please let me know how I can re-emburse you for the shipping costs.
