Seminars

Since 1979, the New Netherland Project, now in conjunction with the New Netherland Institute, organizes an annual Seminar, called The Rensselaerswijck Seminar for the historic patroonship of that name in the Albany region. The Seminar is usually one day, with five invited speakers from the United States and abroad, often from the Netherlands, who present papers on aspects of a common theme. Usually held in Albany in September, the Seminar has occasionally taken place elsewhere, notably in New York City. Some Seminars are two days in duration with twice the number of speakers. The most recent departure from the norm was the highly successful two-day conference (19 sessions and 2 workshops) in June 2006, held jointly with the American Association for Netherlandic Studies, which attracted over 200 attendees and 67 speakers from across the United States and abroad.
